UR Dice
Rules
Royal Game of Ur Rules
Setup
- Each player has 7 pieces.
- Both players start with all pieces off the board.
- Use 4 binary dice (Ur dice).
- The board path has 14 spaces per player, with 8 shared central spaces.
Dice
- Roll 4 binary dice, where each die is either 0 or 1.
- Count the number of 1s rolled. Possible results are 0 through 4.
- If 0 is rolled, no move is made and the turn ends.
Entering the Board
- A piece can enter the board on your starting square only if you roll at least 1.
- Entering counts as the movement for that roll.
Movement
- Move a single piece forward the exact number rolled.
- Pieces follow a fixed path around the board.
- You cannot land on a square occupied by your own piece.
Capturing
- If you land on a square occupied by an opponent's piece, it is captured.
- The captured piece is removed and must start again from off the board.
Rosette Squares
- Landing on a rosette gives an extra turn.
- The central rosette is safe and cannot be captured.
Exiting the Board
- Pieces must reach the end of the path and exit exactly with the correct roll.
- If the roll is too high, that piece cannot move.
Winning
The first player to successfully move all 7 pieces off the board wins.
